The Final Verdict on the Best Breakfast Oatmeal — Eat This Not That - Eat This, Not That

borostos.blogspot.com

Oatmeal is one of the healthiest breakfast options you can start your day with. A good source of fiber, a bowl of oatmeal can help you stay satiated throughout the day all while keeping you regular (if you know what we mean).

So, is one type of oatmeal better to eat than another? In other words, what is the best breakfast oatmeal? The answer isn't satisfying: There isn't one. It just depends on what your personal preference is. For example, do you like steel-cut oats, old-fashioned or rolled oats, or quick oats?

Steel-cut oats aren't necessarily healthier than rolled or quick oats, however, they may help you stay fuller longer. This is because steel-cut oats are made from whole oat groats, which is what you get from harvesting oats. Because they are minimally processed, they take longer to digest, which means they won't cause your blood sugar levels to spike.

Now, if you buy quick oats with flavorings (think instant oatmeal packets) the opposite will likely occur. In addition to consuming too many added sugars, you're more likely to feel hungry within a few hours.

Some experts say organic sprouted rolled oats may be the very best oatmeal you can buy for your morning meal because they're free of herbicides like glyphosate and they cook faster than steel-cut oats.

But again, it depends on a variety of factors, starting with how much time you have in the morning. Steel-cut oats may take as long as 20 to 25 minutes to prepare, whereas rolled oats can be ready within just a few minutes.

In short, you really cannot go wrong when it comes to buying oats. It's best to steer clear of flavored packets of instant oats. Instead, opt for plain rolled or steel-cut varieties and sweeten them yourself with berries, cinnamon, and a drizzle of 100% pure maple syrup.

Consider garnishing your bowl of oatmeal with a handful of nuts like almonds or walnuts to add healthy fats and protein.
