In 2020, vegetables cultivated under cover on an area of ​​5,615 ha (slightly more than in 2019, when they covered 5,586.4 ha). The total production of sheltered vegetables amounted to 1,150 thousand tonnes last year which is less than in the previous season when 1169.2 thousand tonnes were collected. Its share in the total vegetable production in Poland decreased during this period from 23.3 to 22%.

Tomatoes took up 2105 ha last year (in 2019 this number did not differ much and amounted to 2102.6 ha) from the total cultivation area under cover. The harvest of greenhouse and tunnel tomatoes in the discussed years amounted to 670 thousand tonnes in 2020 and 677.3 thousand tonnes in 20019. The decrease by 1.1% is mainly due to unfavorable weather - last spring season there were few sunny days and the temperature was low.

Cucumbers under cover in 2020 grew on an area of ​​1100 ha, which is slightly less than in the previous season, when they were grown on an area of ​​1110.8 ha. The yield of cucumbers last year amounted to 290 thousand tonnes, it was slightly less than in 2019, when 297.1 thousand tonnes of cucumbers.

The remaining vegetables grown under cover (peppers, eggplants, lettuce, radishes) grew on an area of ​​2,410 ha in the last year and 190 thousand tonnes were harvested from it. It is 2.5% less than in 2019. In 2019, the cultivation acreage of species referred to as other vegetables amounted to 2,373 ha, from which 194.8 thousand tonnes vegetables were harvested at that time.
