On April 20, 2021, the 22nd China (Shouguang) International Vegetable Science and Technology Expo/2021 China (Shouguang) International Vegetable Seed Industry Expo opened its doors in Weifang, Shandong.
The exhibition showcases the latest scientific and technological achievements of vegetables, seeds and related industries, cutting-edge practical technologies, well-known, high-quality and rare varieties, and vegetable culture. More than 300 new vegetable varieties, over 80 new growing models, and over 100 new technologies are exhibited.
In recent years, Shouguang insists on the research and development of the vegetable seed industry as a "strategic project" to promote the development of agricultural modernization. Since 2013, the share of locally produced vegetable seeds in Shouguang has been growing each year, from 54% in 2010 to the current over 70%. The number of vegetable varieties developed by this area has reached 140, of which 71 varieties will be awarded patents for new plant varieties in 2020.
In addition, the first regional high-quality seed breeding centers in Shandong Province and China’s largest seedling breeding center also settled in Shouguang. The Seed Expo has a solar greenhouse that hosts an online and offline exhibition of 4000 varieties of seven crops including tomatoes, chilis, cucumbers, melons, and zucchini, bred by more than 400 seed companies and scientific research institutes in China and abroad, with the help of a digital exhibition system.
The expo is themed "Green, Technology, Future”. The main exhibition area is located in the Shouguang Vegetable Technology Demonstration Park, with a total area of 450,000 square meters, including 12 exhibition halls, a high-quality vegetable variety display area, a vegetable museum, and a square exhibition area. The expo showcases more than 300 new vegetable varieties, over 80 new growing models, and more than 100 new technologies.
