Since the end of March, even more organic locally cultivated vegetables have been available in all Alnatura Super Natur stores. The organic company is intensifying its long-standing cooperation with the Reichenau-Gemüse producer association and can therefore offer organic vegetables from the Lake Constance region for some nine months of the year.
The long domestic season started at the end of March with the first snake cucumbers, followed by tomatoes and peppers. In addition to these summer vegetables, Alnatura stores offer sweet potatoes and, in the fall, even fresh ginger from the Lake Constance region: loose and unpackaged, like almost the entire organic fruit and vegetable assortment at Alnatura.
Exclusively for Alnatura: Organic goods from Lake Constance
With its extensive cooperation with the Reichenau Producers' Association, Alnatura aims to further strengthen organic cultivation in Germany. This is because, since the beginning of the year, organic vegetables have been grown exclusively for Alnatura on a four-hectare area in the already existing Reichenau gardening estate in Hegau, just a few kilometers from the Reichenau vegetable island.
In a modern glass house, the organic vegetables grow in a resource-saving manner and with economical drip irrigation, well protected from excessive sunlight and bad weather. Netting on the windows keeps out aphids and bugs, so much less effort is required in biological pest control. When it is too cold, a combined heat and power plant fed with bio-methane gas supplies the greenhouse with energy, and irrigation is provided by an eleven-million-liter rainwater basin. The soil quality on this area is continuously improving in terms of soil life and biodiversity due to organic cultivation.
With the large cultivation area in the Reichenau estate, Alnatura can do without imports from other European countries for many months of the year. This means that numerous transport kilometers with the corresponding CO2 emissions can be avoided, and - a lesson learned from the pandemic - availability is reliably guaranteed even in difficult times.
Fair and reliable partnership
Organic pioneer Alnatura fundamentally values long-term partnerships based on trust and respect. Valentina Rudert, assortment manager for fruit and vegetables at Alnatura, comments on the partnership: "Long-term cultivation contracts and fair prices are very important to Alnatura. Through the cooperation with Reichenau-Gemüse, we can now even keep an eye on the entire value chain, from the field to the Alnatura' vegetable shelves."
Johannes Bliestle, Managing Director of Reichenau-Gemüse, adds: "We at Reichenau-Gemüse are extremely proud that we were able to get Alnatura as a partner. When it comes to organic produce, we are one of the leading producer organizations in Germany, and we have been able to continuously increase the organic share of our produce in recent years. Together with Alnatura, we are united by our enthusiasm for organic produce, and now a connection has been formed between two companies that have both been successful for many years and that act in a forward-looking manner through their sustainable business practices."
