Campti Field of Dreams has announced Daniel Mays will lead a 2-Day Masters Series on Organic Vegetable Production at the Back to Your Roots 2021 Conference. The conference will take place Sept. 9-11. The location has changed from Bossier Parish Community College in Bossier City to DeLaTerre Permaculture Farm in Eros, in response to the coronavirus’ delta variant.

The three-day conference has much to offer those with interests in gardening and sustainable agriculture. This year’s theme is “Reshaping Communities through Regenerative Agriculture” and covers topics ranging from local food production to community and economic development. The pre-conference North Louisiana Farm Tour features a diverse group of farming operations. Konda Mason, founder and executive director of Jubilee Justice, will facilitate a panel discussion on “Fostering a New Generation of Black Farmers.” Rhonda DeCambre, associate dean of students, North Carolina Central University will share an award-winning urban farming program for public housing residents.

Mays, author of “The No-Till Organic Vegetable Farm: How to Start and Run a Profitable Market Garden That Builds Health in Soil, Crops and Communities” will provide a two-day technical series on organic vegetable production. Mays runs Frith Farm in southern Maine, where he has been growing vegetables commercially using no-till methods since 2011. He holds a master’s degree in environmental engineering and shares his approach to agriculture, along with a set of regenerative growing practices.

There will be USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, Farm Service Agency and Rural Development representatives onsite to provide information on their technical and financial assistance programs. These include, but are not limited to, grants for high tunnels; cost sharing on fencing, forage seeding, wells, livestock pipelines, heavy use areas and ponds.

This event is brought to you Campti Field of Dreams in partnership with USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, the Ross Lynn Charitable Foundation and Bossier Parish Community College.

The registration fee for the three-day conference is $85 to offset the cost of meals. Conference registration includes the farm tour, lunch all three days, welcome reception and Friday night dinner with live entertainment. Online registration is required and space is limited.
