Fruit Fresh Up Inc. is recalling fresh cut fruit, vegetable products and ready-to-eat dips, processed at its Depew, NY, production facilities, because of possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.
This recall was initiated after results from an environmental testing program found surfaces where products are packaged into containers to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, according to the company’s recall notice posted by the Food and Drug Administration.
Fresh-cut fruits and vegetables can become contaminated by touching preparation and storage surfaces any by cutting utensils dragging bacteria into the flesh.
Recalled items from the facility were distributed in New York and unnamed surrounding states. Some were distributed to Wegmans locations.
The products subject to the recall of fresh cut fruits and vegetables are packaged in clear plastic containers with a tamper-evident seal sand identified with a “Best if Used By” dates between March 5, 2022, and March 24, 2022. Ready-to-eat dips are provided in 7-ounce clear plastic clamshell containers with a Best if Used By dates of March 15, 2022 to March 31, 2022.

As of the posting of this recall, no illnesses have been reported with the products.
Consumers who still have any of these products in their refrigerators are urged not to consume the product and to discard it immediately.
About Listeria infections
Food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may not look or smell spoiled but can still cause serious and sometimes life-threatening infections. Anyone who has eaten any recalled products and developed symptoms of Listeria infection should seek medical treatment and tell their doctors about the possible Listeria exposure.
Also, anyone who has eaten any of the recalled products should monitor themselves for symptoms during the coming weeks because it can take up to 70 days after exposure to Listeria for symptoms of listeriosis to develop.
Symptoms of Listeria infection can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache, and neck stiffness. Specific laboratory tests are required to diagnose Listeria infections, which can mimic other illnesses.
Pregnant women, the elderly, young children, and people such as cancer patients who have weakened immune systems are particularly at risk of serious illnesses, life-threatening infections, and other complications. Although infected pregnant women may experience only mild, flu-like symptoms, their infections can lead to premature delivery, infection of the newborn, or even stillbirth.
