Soybean planting progress leaps 16% in a week - Successful Farming

Today the USDA released the nineth Crop Progress report of the growing season.

Corn crop progress

The USDA says as of May 26, 83% of the 2024 corn crop has been planted in the top 18 corn-growing states. This is up from 70% the week prior and ahead of the five-year average of 82%.

Corn is emerging in all of those states, with 58% out of the ground. That’s up from 40% the week prior and in line with the five-year average.

Soybean crop progress

USDA says soybean planting progress is at 68%, up from 52% the week prior and ahead of the five-year average of 63%.

Soybeans have emerged in all of the top 18 growing states, with 39% out of the ground. That’s up from 26% the week prior and ahead of the five-year average of 36%.

Oat crop progress

The USDA says across all nine of the top oat-growing states, 93% of the crop has been planted, up from 87% the week prior and ahead of the five-year average of 90%.

A total of 77% of the crop has emerged, up from 69% the week prior and ahead of the five-year average of 74%.

Twenty-nine percent of oats are headed in six of top nine growing states. This is ahead of the five-year average of 23%.

According to the report, the condition of the oat crop in the top growing states rates as follows:

Winter wheat progress

USDA says 77% of winter wheat has headed across all of the top 18 growing states. This is up from 69% the week prior and ahead of the five-year average of 69%.

According to the report, the condition of the winter wheat crop in the top growing states rates as follows:

Spring wheat progress

The USDA says spring wheat planting progress in the top six growing states is at 88%, up from 79% the week prior and ahead of the five-year average of 81%.

A total of 61% is out of the ground, up from 43% the week prior and ahead of the five-year average of 52%.
