The Fruit and Vegetable Working Group, made up of heads of administrations involved in the opening of new markets: the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Commerce and the Ministry of Agriculture, as well as representatives of sectoral associations, including FEPEX, met on July 14. The idea was to review the status of the current files for the opening of new markets, including those that will allow the export of peppers to the United States and pears and apples to Thailand.

Regarding the opening of the US market to pepper exports, it was reported that the country had agreed to start the transactions for the protocol that will allow the export of this vegetable from all Spanish producing areas. For now, peppers are only allowed to be shipped from AlmerĂa, Alicante and certain municipalities of Granada.

The status of the opening of the Thai market for pears and apples was also reported. The visit of the Thai inspectors to Spanish farms had been scheduled to take place in the short term; however, the visit has been suspended due to difficulties in traveling at the moment and a videoconference will be arranged instead.

In addition to reviewing the open files, the sector has shown interest in starting exports to other markets, including kaki and citrus fruits to Thailand; kakis to Colombia; cherries to South Korea, Taiwan and Vietnam and peppers to Japan.
