Vegan organization Refarm’d is helping dairy farmers transition to oat milk production.
Refarm’d is working with farmers who are looking to leave the dairy industry, by helping them switch to plant-based farming through free training and ongoing support.
During the transition process, the dairy farms become sanctuaries for the cows, and the new oat milk business provides an alternative income. Free equipment is given to the farmers, and they are guided through the process of selling their new oat product.
“A Direct Impact On Animal Exploitation”
“I realized two years ago that meat and dairy farms are the perfect places [to] become sanctuaries,” said Geraldine Starke, Refarm’d CEO.
“They already have the animals, the land & structures as well as the people who know how to care for them on a daily basis,” she added.
“It has a direct impact on animal exploitation because each farm that shifts into a sanctuary is one farm less bringing new lives into this world.”

Starke has shared that through Refarm’d she hopes to first “transition all small and medium scale sized farms in the world,” before moving into the bigger operations.
“I would like for farmers to be part of this change of the food system,” she said.
Starke added that in doing so, this would “allow them to maintain the traditions, remain custodians of the land, continuing to produce a fresh product but with a twist, a twist that implies animals are not used anymore.”
