The unions CC. OO. and UGT have called for a strike of the fruit and vegetable handling sector in Almería on December 23, 24, 26 and 28. This is due to the negotiation of the collective agreement for its workers being paralyzed after two years pending to be renewed.
The general secretaries of UGT FICA, Francisca Ramírez Oliver, and of CC. OO., Javier Castaño, as well as the provincial general secretaries, have denounced alleged irregularities, which are resulting in the workers "not having a guaranteed minimum wage or vacations, like other sectors."
"We demand the unblocking of the negotiations for the collective agreement. Our objectives are basically to set a minimum wage and stop being paid by the hour, and to regulate the working day, which sometimes borders on slavery, with a few days with a minimum shift of 4 hours and others of 17 hours," said Ramírez Oliver.
For his part, Castaño has demanded the implementation of the minimum interprofessional wage in all categories. He placed emphasis on the issues to reconcile family and working life, as well as the great problem that temporary employment entails in this sector.
They report that after a meeting in October with the employer's association, their response was to temporarily extend the current collective agreement until 2025 and restart the negotiation of the new one with the idea of delaying its approval.
Both unions have stressed that their main objective is the regularization of the working day with a minimum wage and as many breaks as permitted by law, and the regularization of overtime.
