It seems like every trendy millennial and Gen Z-er only has plant-based milk in their refrigerator. It’s almond milk, oat milk, soy milk, coconut milk…literally anything but the OG stuff. And many brands have picked up on this, pivoting to add something for the lactose-avoider. Coffee Mate has an oat milk creamer, Starbucks has dairy-free options in stores and in groceries stores, and Hidden Valley Ranch came out with a vegan version of their dressing.
So it’s really no surprise that Hershey’s is hopping on the trend with a vegan chocolate. The new chocolate bars are made with oat milk and come in two flavors. The classic Dark Chocolate and the Extra Creamy Almond & Sea Salt. You can currently purchase them at various retailers including Target.
The new vegan bars are part of a test release through next summer, so we can only hope they will become a part of the permanent line. The packaging also got a cool new look. The classic wrapper has been replaced with a brown and tan leafy plant design to match the plant-based ingredients. “Oat Made,” the name of the line, is in bold print with the dark chocolate flavor in pink and the almond sea salt in blue. Both these flavors are non-GMO, made with Rainforest Alliance certified cocoa, and vegan.
This launch comes after the brand announced its “better for you” line in February, which includes more plant-based alternatives. Hopefully, other Hershey’s brands will come out with vegan options. Imagine a Reese’s made with almond milk? Yeah, I'm all in.
