During the Sicilian Open Day, held on 12 November in the fruit and vegetable market of Vittoria, HM.Clause presented a selection of the latest varietal innovations in the field of tomatoes, courgettes, and peppers.

More than 500 official visitors attended the event, aimed at demonstrating the importance of the seed company for Sicilian production, held in a symbolic location for the Italian fruit and vegetable industry.
The main focus of the event was the promotion of the cherry Prodigio F1, as an addition to the HM.Clause cherry variety offer. Prodigio F1, which is suited to short cycles, stands out in the cherry range for its bright red color and its flavor.

"Prodigio has proven to be very popular, and we are really satisfied with its performance in any weather condition, especially with the Sicilian summer heat. Prodigio has passed the heat stress test very well, even this summer, when temperatures were over 45 °C outside the greenhouses many days. Nevertheless, Prodigio stood out for its flavor and color, even with high temperatures, and it was well-received in the Italian retail markets, especially at a time when the shortage of Italian tomatoes emphasized the competition with foreign products," commented Agostino Marcellino, Sicily's area manager.
All tomato-related public relations are supported by the international project Thrilled for Tomato!. With this project, HM.Clause intends to become a reliable leader in the global tomato market.
"This open day gave us the opportunity to talk about other important varieties such as Dovizio tomato dates, Anissia round smooth tomatoes, Maestoso, Mecisteo, and Belfagor peppers, and Dharma and Shyva courgettes. The latter, resistant to the New Delhi virus, have proved to be very important for the sector, giving farmers the opportunity to defend themselves from the virus. These courgettes are part of the No-New Delhi resistance project, born last spring, which will soon see the arrival of new varieties," continued the manager.
"The event turned out to be a very pleasant, but also a very busy one. In addition to the many professionals of the fruit and vegetable market, we also received several visits from people from other sectors, such as field technicians, plant nursery operators, agribusiness executives, traders, and many producers, of small, medium, and large companies, who contributed to the quality of the event with their participation," commented Marcellino.
"After such a long time, the local Hm.Clause team had the pleasure to meet with field workers and continue the special relationship that exists with this part of the Sicilian territory," concluded the area manager.
