By India Today Web Desk: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman was seen buying vegetables from a street vendor in Chennai's Mylapore market. She also interacted with some of the vendors.
In a video shared by her office on Saturday, the finance minister was seen carefully choosing what to buy and eventually picking out some sweet potatoes. Nirmala Sitharaman also seemed interested in some bitter gourd in one of the images her office shared on Twitter.
"During her day-long visit to Chennai, @nsitharaman made a halt at Mylapore market where she interacted with the vendors and local residents and also purchased vegetables," the finance minister's office said in a tweet.
Vegetables are one of the key items at the centre of rising inflation in the country.

Earlier, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had said the government was making efforts to keep inflation under 4 per cent and that steps were being taken to ensure people get essential goods at a fair price and on time.
