LEXINGTON — Kentucky football linebacker Chris Oats has been hospitalized with an undisclosed medical issue, a UK spokeswoman confirmed Friday.
"The family has asked us to confirm that the issue is not related to COVID-19," the spokeswoman wrote in a statement. "Chris is expected to move to a physical rehabilitation center in the near future. The family requests that their privacy be respected during this time."
A Cincinnati native, Oats appeared in 12 of 13 games as a sophomore last season, totaling 46 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and one forced fumble. He ended UK's pandemic-shortened spring practice as the projected 2020 starter at weakside linebacker.
A consensus four-star recruit out of Winton Woods High School, Oats committed to Kentucky over a scholarship offer from Ohio State in the 2018 class.
Oats has appeared in 25 of 26 games across his two-season Kentucky career.
