Spanish fresh fruit and vegetable imports from January to April stood at 1,247 million euro, the same value as in the same period of 2021. Morocco, France, and Peru were Spain's main suppliers, followed by Portugal, Costa Rica, and the Netherlands.
In this period, Moroccan fruits and vegetables amounted to a total of 469 million euro, i.e. 11% more than in the same months of 2021, strengthening Morocco's position as the leading supplier country. Morocco's progression in the Spanish market has followed an upward and continuous trend in recent years. Comparing the data for the first quarter of 2022 with the data from the same period six years ago, in 2017, the value of imports increased by 54%, going from 304 million euro to 469 million euro.
According to data from the Department of Customs and Excise processed by FEPEX, France is Spain's second source of fruit and vegetables with 119 million euro, 6% more than in 2021, followed by Peru with 100 million euro, i.e. 9% less than in the same period of the previous year.
Peru is followed by Portugal, Costa Rica, and the Netherlands. Between January and April of this year, Spanish fresh fruit and vegetable imports from Portugal amounted to 70 million euro, i.e. 8% more than in the same months of 2021. Imports from Costa Rica amounted to 65 million euro (+7%) and imports from the Netherlands totaled 60 million euro (+4%).
