Former Dairy Farmers Launch Vegan Oat Milk Brand - VegNews

United Kingdom-based Bradley Nook Farm recently launched its first plant-based oat beverage after owners Jay and Katja Wilde transitioned the farm from a conventional beef operation to a sustainable organic vegan farm. The Wildes worked with startup organization Refarm’d to pivot their family business after they could no longer bear taking their cows to slaughter. “At some point, I couldn’t stop seeing the animals as individuals,” Jay Wilde said. “I just couldn’t send them to their death at the slaughterhouse any longer.”

Transition to plants
With the help of The Vegan Society and the Manchester-based Vegan Organic Network, the Wildes transferred a large part of their animal herd to Hillside Animal Sanctuary and started the process of transitioning to planting crops. Their story was the subject of the documentary 73 Cows—which won a BAFTA Award in 2019. Soon after, the founder of Refarm’d, Geraldine Starke, approached the Wildes with the idea to complement their new business model with plant-based beverage production using local and organic ingredients.

Producing oat milk
Bradley Nook Farm is the first in the UK to partner with Refarm’d to beta-launch the oat drink. It is available in reusable glass bottles in limited quantities to subscribers at select pick-up locations in the UK Midlands.
