Gardeners across the state can participate in a virtual class from Colorado State about vegetable growing.
The free and self-paced class, normally $40, will teach considerations for planning and planting, proper soil preparation, how to care for tomatoes, tips for growing other vegetables, frost and freeze protection, among other topics.
Participants do not need prior gardening experience but are encouraged to partake in the Grow and Give program.
Grow and Give, started in spring 2020, aims to reduce food insecurity in Colorado through gardeners’ donations. There is no minimum donation requirement, and donations can be given to specific drop-off sites, food banks or community members in need.
Roughly 600 volunteer gardeners produced more than 47,000 pounds of fresh vegetables last year, according to CSU. The donations went to food banks, homeless shelters, nonprofits and individuals.
Free registration for the course closes on Monday. Those who want to participate can still register on Tuesday or later, but the class will not be free.
Registration can be found through CSU online enrollment or at the CSU Certified Gardner website.
