STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — As New York city emerges from the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, and life slowly eases back to normal, one critical part of the daily routine still might not quite fill the bill: Grabbing your favorite Starbucks beverage.
Thanks to COVID-related global supply shortages, ordering your favorite drink or snack might lead to frustration, the national coffee retailer has acknowledged.
And though the chain has proven a dependable friend mid-pandemic, with a convenient phone app and drive-through accessibility keeping its products a daily staple for many, these days customers are reporting that their experience when they get to the drive-through window often disappoints.
Starbucks is working to restock items as soon as possible, a spokesman assured SIlive.com.
Some Starbucks locations are short on everything, from paper products to pastries, syrups and fruit juices, according to The New York Times.
Coffee beans, however, seem to be bountiful.
The non-dairy oat milk option is one that was temporarily pulled from some Starbucks stores, a spokesperson said, adding that drinks with oat milk will not be available until the company is able to restock.
“We know that a visit to Starbucks is an important part of our customers’ day, and we apologize for the inconvenience,’' a company spokesperson said. “We are experiencing temporary supply shortages of some of our products. Specific items will vary by market and store, and some stores will experience outages of various items at the same time.”
When using the Starbucks app, customers may see a warning of the absence of some menu items.
And, across social media, customers and employees alike have expressed their frustration with the shortages.
One Starbucks employee on Tik Tok said his undisclosed store was using off-brand products to meet customer demand. In another Tik Tok video, the lack of supplies has some baristas jokingly questioning their “will to live.’'
