The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food, Luis Planas, and the president of Fepex, Jorge Brotons, have renewed the agreement to promote the fruit, vegetable, flower, and live plant sectors abroad for the years 2021 and 2022 by participating in international fairs. A novelty, compared to previous years, is that the agreement will grant support to the Fruit Attraction fair, as the main instrument for promoting the fruit and vegetable sector.

The agreement aims to promote the production and quality of Spanish fruits, vegetables, flowers, and live plants in international markets by assisting these sectors in the development of promotional actions at fairs in 2021 and 2022. It establishes that the MAPA will finance 50% of the 920,000 euro investment that the agreement allocates to participate in various fairs in 2021 and 2022, a figure that includes the money that wasn't used in fairs that were not held in 2020 due to the pandemic.

The fairs that will be attended are Fruit Attraction and Flower & Garden Attraction, from October 5 to 7 in Madrid; the 7th edition of Paysalia, a landscape, garden, and sports fair that will be held in Lyon between November 30 and December 2; the Essen International Plant Fair in Germany, which will take place from January 25 to the 28, 2022, and the Convention of the Canadian Produce Marketing Association (CPMA), the largest annual event for the Canadian fresh fruit and vegetable industry (April 5-7).

This type of collaboration is not new and it has been developed satisfactorily since 2013. This year, the agreement will support Fruit Attraction to help it recover its position as the main instrument for promoting the fruit and vegetable sector in the international arena after last year the fair couldn't be held in person. They will also develop a program with international guests.

Fepex stated that the agreement also has outstanding support for the Spanish flower and plant, a sector that has great growth potential in Europe in terms of export, especially in ornamental plants. The agreement also contributes to promoting market diversification, with participation in fairs in markets of great interest, such as Canada, a country that signed an Economic and Trade Agreement with the EU on September 21, 2017, which has boosted fruit and vegetable exports.
