LONDON — Fruit and vegetable delivery service Oddbox, which rescues fresh produce which is deemed “too big”, “too ugly” or the “wrong colour” from going to waste, has appointed Splendid Communications as its lead consumer agency.
After a three-way competitive pitch run by Creativebrief, Splendid’s brief is to help Oddbox establish food waste as a major climate issue. Founded in 2016, Oddbox is a B-Corp certified fruit and vegetable delivery box service focused on fighting the climate crisis through the reduction of food waste at the farm level: in the UK, over three million tonnes of fruit and vegetables are wasted before they even leave the farm, along with all the energy, carbon and water that went into growing it.
The partnership launches with a retainer that will cover Splendid Communications team members undertaking secondments within the Oddbox business, alongside a more conventional agency relationship.
Splendid will help with the launch of a new Oddbox customer brand experience and the expansion of its service to the Midlands and the South East of the UK, as well as an always-on press office to drive the company’s national media profile.
The agency will also be working with the Oddbox team – which previously handled PR and social activity in-house – to deliver a longer-term communications strategy and creative activations to grow awareness of industrial food waste and its impact on the environment, encouraging its audience to “eat good, do good, and stay odd”.
